Heavy Hearts – Rest in Peace Jason Molina

easy payday loans and secure !

The news of Jason Molina’s passing has left the Southeast Engine camp heavyhearted. Molina fronted both Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. and his music just meant so much to us all.

As a touring band spending long hours confined to a van, Southeast Engine could always agree on the songs of Molina. They seemed to be the perfect soundtrack to the open road. While SEE typically set out to discover older music, Molina’s albums were the exception to the rule and, arguably, the most played. There are distinct memories of traveling across North Dakota’s vast expanse while simultaneously nodding to “Leave the City“ or watching the moon rest above the Rockies with ”Farewell Transmission“ turned up loud.

Southeast Engine played a few shows with Magnolia Electric Co. and shared the same booking agent. It was always a dream of ours to do it again, however, we shall now have to simply be grateful for the music Jason Molina provided us. It was music that seemed to make time stand still and, for brief moments, it left a lingering sense that everything was going to be okay. Oh, what a beautiful gift he gave. “It ain’t Hallelujah, but it might as well have been.”

Thanks for a Great 2012

We wanted to check in to say thanks for a great 2012.  We also want to direct you to a 20% sale on all our records and t-shirts right now at Misra Records including our 2012 EP Canaanville.

2012 was actually a pretty active year for the band, which included all of the following:

  • SXSW + SPRING TOUR:  A SXSW performance for the Misra Records Showcase along with a couple other performances with a tour surrounding the festival.  Here is a video of us performing all acoustic “Old Oak Tree” for a secret show we did in the basement of the Texas capital building.
  • CANAANVILLE EP RELEASE: The summer saw the release of our Canaanville EP, which is a four song companion piece to our 2011 full-length album Canary. The EP was released in conjunction with a new run of t-shirts, in which the purchase of a shirt came with a free digital download of the EP.  You can see the cover of the EP and learn more about it here.  Pop Matters actually wrote one of the most in-depth articles on the band as well at the release of the EP, which you can read here.
  • FALL TOUR, DAYTROTTER, & OFFICIAL “OLD OAK TREE” VIDEO: The band hit the road once again in November of this year with a string of dates through the Midwest, East Coast, and Northeast.  The Fall season also saw the premiere of our encore Daytrotter performance and the premiere of our official video for “Old Oak Tree” by filmmaker Tommy Britt.

Thanks again for a great year everyone!  Don’t forget to check out the store at Misra Records for a sale on all our records as well.  Your support goes a long way.
