Mountain Child

I am a mountain child no longer a kid
I’m always on trial for something I never did
and as long as I can remember and as far as my eyes see
these are the hills I’m belonging as good as good can be

down in the Hocking Valley you won’t find any gold
but you might find yourself that black diamond coal
and as long as I can remember and as far as my eyes see
these are the hills I’m belonging as good as good can be

so much for the great migrations to the cities
I refuse to lose my home to work in a factory
and as long as I can remember and as far as my eyes see
these are the hills I’m belonging as good as good can be
and we got so much going for us but it all gets taken away
oh but to be in the place I need and know that I can stay

I am mountain no longer a kid
I’m always on trial for something I never did
